SOME PEOPLE WAIT A LIFETIME TO FIND A GREAT CAR, SOME FIND IT WHEN THEY ARE A TEEN, AND WAIT A LIFETIME TO WON IT. MARK WAS A FORTUNATE RARITY, HE GOT BOTH THE CAR HE DESIRED 30ISH YEARS AGO, AND IT'S A BARNFIND 1969 GT 500 SHELBY MUSTANG

Mark's neighbor was an attorney that owned 3 Shelby Stangs, acquiring each as payment on cases, and this was the one he drove the most and damaged in the early 80's, and then parked it in the warehouse over his office.

Some cars set speed records, but weren't fortunate enough to be savvy enough to get an organization to be there to "Sanction" it, and AAA wouldn't bless a run unless you were a member. Huh.

notice the writing on the photo, especially that on the upper left hand corner

very rare to have wire wheels in 1922, they go back to 1908 at least, but very uncommon

in 1922 Sig Haugdahl built this wire wheeled streamliner with a 6 cylinder, 836cu in, 13.7 liter, airplane engine. He ran it on Daytona beach, and beat the previous record by 24 mph. The previous might have been that of the Mephistople, or the Blitzen Benz.

From what I recall from reading the superb book 'The Fast Set' about the British land speed record racers in the 1920's and 1930's, it required a license plate for a short distance it had to travel from the trials site to it's garage

above is a shot of ice being added to the intake or fuel tank to lower temps for higher speeds. Is this the first use of ice on a race car?
