In 1988 some Pontiac dealership was making these Ferrari look alikes to cash in on the Magnum PI 308 craze. Not that Pontiac was sponsoring this, but the Fiero was the base model, and some dealerships are set up to make car mods, like conversion vans, stretch vans, etc
And Malcolm Bricklin who tried a lot of things, but I don't recall him getting much success, looked at the Fiat Jolly and thought he could get some business by making these "Yacht" cars from the 1970 Subaru (he was big deal in Subaru America dealerships or importing)
